03 Dec Back in Business

Back in Business
We drifted,,becalmed for a full 12 hours last night. By 7am, however, we were back in business. Here we’re doing an easy 7.5 over a flat sea. Surprisingly, there has been virtually no change and orders orders for the day have been pedal to the metal.
What this picture does not says that the Seaburban is on a rhumb line course for Cape Horn. There’s a high pressure region lying north and east of Pitcairn that has effectively starved me of any good sailing angles for my planned flyby. And I need to avoid the sub tropical high that lingers over Easter Island. That leaves me a direct path to the Horn.
It actually hasn’t really sunk in. It seems more an academic exercise than a reality. Something like “Students! Pull out your climatological weather atlases and plot the safest, quickest route from Pitcairn to Cape Horn! Don’t forget to show your work. I expect your papers on my desk by closing bell today. You there Sir Salty Never-On-Time! Wake up!”
The Horn is some 4000 plus miles away. And we’re looking right at it. I hope it’s looking the other way…
