Pedal to the Metal
I just love this expression. It’s so 60’s. Like Rocco and Biff eyeing each other at a red light revving their hemis 60’s.
We’re pedal to the metal racing another low tailing us around the bottom of Tasmania. The idea is to clear South East Cape and then get some latitude between us and the low. The building seas might have something to say about our plans.
The shift from North winds blowing 35 to West blowing more took all of 5 minutes. Literally here one minute gone the next. The waves and swell took much longer to sort themselves out.
What is it about this place that keeps low after low swirling up from astern? Perhaps it is a test, a right of passage. Perhaps it’s just bad luck. Perhaps it’s just winter down here. Whatever it is it’s not about to change anytime soon on my behalf. Another week or so and New Zealand’s South Cape may finally grant us a reprieve.
In the meantime, my money’s on Biff’s little deuce coup.
