When to Quit
These guys never know when to quit. Even in the dead of night, i see them flash through the glare of the spreader lights.
It is not at all unusual to see them flying in formation. Here, two do perfect wing-overs as they search the wake, then the swells ahead, then the wake again when we catch up to them.
No matter the conditions, if you look the birds are always here. Up until the mid to late 1980’s, their nesting locations where either not well known or not known at all. The work of Gerry Clark, a citizen scientist, done during a 3 year cruise and documented in his book ‘The Totorore Voyage’ shed much light on their nesting locations and numbers. Clark’s book is an absolute must read for anyone interested in adventuring at the limits of human endurance and perseverance.
